Our firm has extensive experience in juvenile cases. Michael began his career working for the Solicitor's Office which allowed him to prosecute juvenile cases. Since leaving the solicitor's office, Michael has defended juveniles for over fifteen (15) years.
Juvenile cases when brought to court are prosecuted in the Family Court of the county where the offense occurred.
A family court judge is charged with determining the guilt or innocence of a juvenile. At times, if adjudicated delinquent (i.e., guilty) a judge will request a DJJ evaluation of the child before making his/her final ruling, or prior to commitment. This evaluation helps the judge decide how to proceed in the best interests of the child. On the other hand, a family court judge may find the juvenile “not delinquent" (i.e., not guilty). If the juvenile is found not delinquent the case ends.
